Sue and Nick Atkins run Atkins Alpacas as a family business, Son Oliver takes care of the I.T. side of the business, he has constructed the website and carries out the updates and maintenance.

Nick and Sue run the business and take care of the day-to-day husbandry and welfare of the Alpacas.

Sue is the daughter of a farmer who has been involved in farming as her father before her all of her life.

As such she understands the many different problems facing farmers today, having worked on her families farms, from 35acres in Devon to a 167 acres in Scotland, She has a love and understanding of animals that has stood her in good stead when dealing with Alpacas which she describes as beautiful enchanting and very inquisitive.

Atkins Alpacas was formed from a desire to leave the rat race and enjoy the good life. We looked into all aspects of farming on a smallholding.

In particular how to maximise profit and enjoyment from a few acres and decided upon Alpacas; from that moment forward we have never looked back. Apart from the usual planning problems, which we overcame. Our Council decided derelict barns form part of the rural landscape, they were happy to see it fall down rather than be repaired and provide a home and business, we and the vast majority of locals thought otherwise. Don't give up is our advice to people with similar problems, with determination it is possible to make your dreams come true.

Years later we are living the dream enjoying life with the alpacas, along with the pleasant task of improving the Genetics of our herd from the best possible stock available from around the world.

Time has slowed down, we cannot wait to see the outcome of each new years cria May to September is a wonderful time of year.
