Pre-birth of alpacas
1. 6 weeks before the cria is due, it is highly recommended that you vaccinate the mother with heptavac and dectomax.
2. You must check the score of the mother to be, because if the mother is too fat she will have troubles giving birth.
Signs of giving birth
1. Rolling around on the floor much more often than usual shows a good sign of labour.
2. Visiting the poo pile more often also shows good signs of labour.
3. When her tail is cocked up into the air is another strong sign as with on our experierence of birthing this usually happens between 7:30 and 8:30 AM. Note if this process carries on for an hour or two with no progress then she may need a vet to assist you with the birth.
